JobsU, Inc. ("JobsU," "we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your personal information when you access or use the JobsU platform, including our mobile application, website, and related services (collectively, the "Platform").
By accessing or using the Platform, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with our practices, please do not use the Platform.
This Privacy Policy should be read in conjunction with our Terms of Service, which govern your use of the Platform.
1. Information We Collect
We collect information in several ways to provide, improve, and protect the Platform.
1.1 Information You Provide Directly
When you create an account or use the Platform, you may provide:
- Account Information: Name, email address (.edu email for Students), phone number, password, and profile photo
- Profile Information: Bio, availability, university affiliation, year of study, and areas of expertise
- Self-Reported Credentials: Skills, experience, and any certifications you choose to list on your profile (e.g., CPR, first aid, tutoring qualifications). JobsU does not independently verify self-reported credentials unless expressly stated otherwise, and Residents are responsible for verifying any credentials material to their hiring decision.
- Payment Information: Billing address and payment card details for Residents (processed by Stripe; JobsU does not store full payment card numbers). Students who set up payouts provide bank account information which is collected and processed directly by Stripe under the Stripe Connected Account Agreement — JobsU does not store bank account numbers.
- Tax Information: Tax identification information (such as Social Security Number or EIN) for Service Providers who meet applicable IRS reporting thresholds, collected solely for the purpose of issuing required tax forms (e.g., IRS Form 1099-NEC).
- Job Information: Job descriptions, service requirements, location of work, pricing, and scheduling preferences
- Communications: Messages exchanged through the Platform, customer support inquiries, and feedback
- Verification Data: Educational enrollment verification, identity verification documents, and related data
- Reviews and Ratings: Feedback and ratings you provide about other users
- Household and Job-Site Information Voluntarily Provided by Residents: Information that Residents choose to share with Service Providers in connection with a booking, which may include household details, access instructions, and, where applicable to childcare or pet care bookings, information about minors or pets in the household (see Section 9 for important information about child-related data)
1.2 Information Collected Automatically
When you use the Platform, we automatically collect:
- Device Information: Device type, operating system, unique device identifiers, browser type, and mobile network information
- Usage Data: Pages viewed, features used, search queries, click patterns, session duration, and interaction data
- Location Data: Approximate location based on IP address at all times. Precise location is collected only if you grant permission through your device settings, and only to match Service Providers with nearby jobs and to display distance estimates. JobsU does not continuously track your precise location in the background, and you may revoke location permission through your device settings at any time.
- Log Data: IP address, access times, referring URLs, and system activity logs
- Cookies and Tracking Technologies: We use cookies, web beacons, pixels, and similar technologies to collect data about your browsing activity (see Section 8)
1.3 Information from Third Parties
We may receive information from:
- Payment Processors: Transaction confirmation, payment status, and fraud screening results
- Identity Verification Providers: Results of background or identity checks, where applicable
- Educational Institutions and Verification Services: Enrollment verification data (where permitted)
- Analytics Providers: Aggregated and de-identified usage analytics
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect for the following purposes:
- Platform Operations: To create and manage your account, facilitate job postings and applications, process payments, and enable communication between users.
- Trust and Safety: To verify identity and enrollment, prevent fraud and abuse, enforce our Terms of Service, and protect the security of the Platform.
- Personalization and Matching: To recommend relevant jobs, match Service Providers with nearby opportunities, and customize your experience based on your preferences and location.
- Communications: To send transactional messages (e.g., booking confirmations, payment receipts), service updates, and promotional communications (with your consent where required).
- Analytics and Improvement: To analyze usage patterns, measure performance, conduct research, improve the Platform's features and user experience, and develop anonymized market intelligence and analytics products.
- Legal Compliance: To comply with applicable laws, respond to legal requests, establish or exercise legal claims, and fulfill tax reporting obligations.
3. Automated Processing and Algorithmic Matching
JobsU may use automated processes and algorithms to operate the Platform, including to match Service Providers with nearby jobs, surface relevant recommendations, detect fraudulent activity, screen for suspicious transactions, and help enforce our Terms of Service. These automated processes may consider factors such as location, ratings, job history, stated availability, and account activity.
JobsU does not currently use fully automated decision-making that produces legal or similarly significant effects on users without human involvement. Significant account actions, such as permanent suspension or removal from the Platform, are reviewed by JobsU personnel before being finalized. Where required by applicable law, you may have the right to request additional information about automated processing that affects you or to request human review; to do so, contact us at privacy@jobsu.app.
4. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell your personal information. We may share your information in the following circumstances:
- With Other Users: When you use the Platform, certain profile information is visible to other users. Residents can see a Student's name, profile photo, university affiliation, self-reported skills and certifications, ratings, and reviews. Students can see a Resident's name, job details, general location, and ratings.
- With Service Providers: We share information with third-party vendors who perform services on our behalf. Our key providers include: Stripe, Inc. (payment processing and student payouts via Stripe Connect); Supabase (database and authentication infrastructure); Apple and Google (push notification delivery via APNs and FCM, which requires transmission of device tokens); Google Maps Platform (address autocomplete and location services — address data entered on the Platform is processed by Google's APIs under Google's Privacy Policy). These and other providers are contractually obligated to use your data only for the purposes we specify.
- For Legal Reasons: We may disclose your information if required by law, in response to a valid legal process, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of JobsU, our users, or the public.
- Business Transfers: In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred to the successor entity. We will notify you of any such change.
- With Your Consent: We may share your information for other purposes with your explicit consent.
- Aggregated or De-identified Data: We may share aggregated or de-identified data that cannot reasonably be used to identify you with research institutions, educational technology companies, workforce analytics providers, and other business partners for research, analytics, or commercial purposes.
5. Data Retention
We retain your personal information only for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes described in this Privacy Policy. Our general retention practices are:
- Account and Profile Information: Retained for the duration of your active account and for 30 days following account closure, after which it is deleted or anonymized, except where longer retention is required to handle pending matters or comply with legal obligations.
- Transaction and Payment Records: Retained for 7 years from the date of the transaction, consistent with applicable tax, financial, and regulatory requirements.
- Messages and Communications: Retained for 2 years following your last account activity, and then deleted or anonymized, except where retention is required for an open dispute, investigation, or legal proceeding.
- Verification and Identity Records: Retained for the duration of your account and for 2 years following account closure, or longer as required to meet legal, regulatory, and trust-and-safety obligations.
- Usage Analytics: Retained in aggregated or de-identified form for up to 2 years.
- Marketing Preferences and Opt-Out Records: Retained indefinitely to honor your preferences on an ongoing basis.
These periods represent our standard practices and may be extended where required by applicable law, an open dispute or investigation, or a valid legal hold. When personal information is no longer needed, we will securely delete or anonymize it in accordance with our data retention practices.
6. Data Security
We implement commercially reasonable technical, administrative, and organizational security measures to protect your personal information, including:
- Encryption of data in transit (TLS/SSL) and at rest
- Secure payment processing through PCI-DSS compliant third-party providers
- Access controls limiting employee access to personal data on a need-to-know basis
- Regular security assessments, monitoring, and incident response procedures
Breach Notification. In the event of a data breach affecting your personal information, JobsU will notify affected users in accordance with applicable law, including the New York SHIELD Act and any other state or federal breach notification requirements that apply. Notifications will be provided within the timeframe required by applicable law and will describe the nature of the incident and the steps you can take to protect yourself, to the extent known.
Important: No method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials.
7. Your Rights and Choices
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the following rights regarding your personal information:
- Access: Request a copy of the personal information we hold about you
- Correction: Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete information
- Deletion: Request deletion of your personal information, subject to legal retention requirements
- Portability: Request a copy of your data in a structured, machine-readable format
- Opt-Out of Marketing: Unsubscribe from promotional communications at any time via the "unsubscribe" link in emails or through your account settings
- Withdraw Consent: Where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw consent at any time
- Location Permissions: You can disable precise location access through your device settings at any time
- Human Review of Automated Processing: Where applicable law provides such a right, you may request additional information about or human review of certain automated processes (see Section 3)

8. Cookies and Tracking Technologies
We use cookies and similar technologies to:
- Essential Cookies: Enable core functionality such as authentication, security, and session management
- Performance Cookies: Collect anonymous data about how users interact with the Platform to improve performance
- Functional Cookies: Remember your preferences and settings for a personalized experience
- Analytics Cookies: Help us understand usage patterns through third-party analytics services (e.g., Google Analytics)
You can manage cookie preferences through your browser settings. Disabling certain cookies may affect Platform functionality.
Do Not Track: Some browsers offer a "Do Not Track" signal. The Platform does not currently respond to Do Not Track signals, but we respect your choices through the cookie management options described above.
9. SMS, Push Notifications, and Telephone Communications
By providing your phone number and creating an account, you consent to receive communications from JobsU via SMS text message, push notification, and, where applicable, telephone call. These communications may include:
- Transactional and service messages (booking confirmations, payment receipts, job alerts, and account security notices)
- Platform notifications about new job opportunities, incoming applications, or messages from other users
- Promotional or marketing communications, only where you have provided consent as required by applicable law
Autodialed and Prerecorded Messages: JobsU or its service providers may use automated technology, including autodialers or prerecorded voice messages, to deliver certain SMS or telephone communications. Standard carrier messaging and data rates may apply and are your responsibility.
Opt-Out: You may opt out of non-essential SMS marketing communications at any time by replying STOP to any marketing text message or by updating your notification preferences in your account settings. You may opt out of push notifications through your device's notification settings at any time. You may not opt out of essential service communications required for the operation and security of your account, such as booking confirmations, payment receipts, and security alerts.

10. Children's Privacy and Information About Minors
No Accounts for Minors. The Platform is not intended for use by anyone under the age of 18, and we do not knowingly permit individuals under 18 to create accounts or use the Platform. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 18. If we become aware that a child under 18 has created an account or provided personal information directly to us, we will take steps to promptly delete such information and terminate the account.
Information About Children Provided by Residents. In connection with babysitting or childcare-related bookings, a Resident who is a parent or legal guardian may voluntarily provide limited information about their children to a Service Provider or through the Platform, such as a child's first name, age, allergies, dietary restrictions, medical considerations, emergency contacts, or household rules. JobsU does not solicit this information directly from children, does not require Residents to provide it, and collects it only to the extent the Resident chooses to share it to facilitate a booking.
Parental Responsibility. Parents and legal guardians are solely responsible for deciding what information about their children to share with Service Providers or through the Platform, and for the accuracy and sensitivity of that information. By providing information about a child through the Platform, the Resident represents that they are the child's parent or legal guardian and have the authority to share such information.
Handling and Deletion. Any information about a minor that is provided through the Platform is handled in accordance with this Privacy Policy, is retained only for as long as reasonably necessary to support the booking and any related dispute or safety review, and is then deleted or anonymized. Parents and guardians may request deletion of child-related information at any time by contacting privacy@jobsu.app. If you believe a child under 18 has provided personal information to us directly, or that child-related information has been shared on the Platform in a manner inconsistent with this Policy, please contact us immediately at privacy@jobsu.app.
11. Student Enrollment Data and FERPA
To verify that Service Providers are current college students, JobsU collects and verifies enrollment status through .edu email verification and, where applicable, third-party enrollment verification services.
JobsU is not a school, school official, or educational agency, and JobsU does not receive or maintain "education records" as that term is defined under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act ("FERPA"). The enrollment information JobsU collects is limited to confirmation of a Student's current enrollment status and basic university affiliation, provided voluntarily by the Student or obtained through third-party verification services operating under their own terms and privacy policies.
Students are responsible for understanding any privacy policies or terms of use that apply to their .edu email account or to any third-party verification service used in connection with JobsU.
12. State-Specific Privacy Rights
12.1 California Residents (CCPA/CPRA)
If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), including:
- The right to know what personal information we collect, use, disclose, and sell
- The right to delete personal information we hold about you
- The right to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information (JobsU does not sell personal information)
- The right to correct inaccurate personal information
- The right to limit the use of sensitive personal information
- The right to non-discrimination for exercising your privacy rights

12.2 Other State Privacy Laws
A growing number of U.S. states have enacted comprehensive consumer privacy laws that may provide residents with rights similar to those described above, including rights of access, correction, deletion, portability, opt-out of targeted advertising, and limits on the processing of sensitive information. JobsU will honor applicable rights under the privacy laws of your state of residence, to the extent they apply to our processing of your information. To submit a request under your state's privacy law, please contact us at privacy@jobsu.app and identify the state in which you reside. We may request information to verify your identity and residency before responding to a request.
13. International Users
The Platform is currently operated in the United States. If you access the Platform from outside the United States, please be aware that your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States, where data protection laws may differ from those in your jurisdiction.
By using the Platform, you consent to the transfer of your information to the United States. If we expand internationally, we will comply with applicable data protection laws, including the GDPR where required.
14. Third-Party Links and Services
The Platform may contain links to third-party websites or services that are not owned or controlled by JobsU. This Privacy Policy does not apply to those third-party services. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party services you access through the Platform.
15. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technology, or legal requirements. When we make material changes, we will:
- Post the updated Privacy Policy on the Platform with a new effective date
- Notify you by email or in-app notification for significant changes
- Obtain your consent where required by applicable law
Your continued use of the Platform after the effective date of any revised Privacy Policy constitutes your acceptance of the changes.
