How can we help?

What is JobsU?

JobsU is a marketplace platform connecting Boston-area residents with hand-picked college students for flexible, on-demand local help — including babysitting, yard work, moving assistance, pet care, tutoring, and general errands. Residents post jobs; students apply and get paid through the app.

Who can use JobsU?

Residents are anyone in the Greater Boston area looking for trusted, local help. No college affiliation required — just create an account and post your first job.

Students must be enrolled at a participating Boston-area college and verify their enrollment with a valid .edu email address. Students are individually reviewed before they can begin accepting jobs.

Which colleges are included?

JobsU is launching with Boston College, Harvard, Boston University, Northeastern, Tufts, and Wellesley. Additional schools will be added as the platform grows.

How do I post a job?

Create an account at app.jobsu.app, then tap "Post a Job." Describe what you need, set a date, time, and rate — it takes under two minutes. Students at nearby colleges are notified immediately and can apply in one tap.

What kinds of tasks can I post?

You can post any local task a college student can reasonably help with, including:

  • Babysitting and childcare
  • Yard work, raking, gardening, snow shoveling
  • Moving help, furniture assembly, light hauling
  • Pet care and dog walking
  • Grocery runs and general errands
  • In-person tutoring
  • Tech help, home organization, event setup

See our Acceptable Use Policy for tasks that are not permitted on the platform.

Does JobsU guarantee the quality of work?

JobsU carefully selects every student on the platform and takes care in building a community of trustworthy, capable people. However, JobsU operates as a marketplace — we connect you with students, but we do not perform, supervise, direct, or warrant the services provided.

We strongly encourage residents to communicate clearly with the student about expectations before they arrive, and to use the in-app rating system after every job. If you experience an issue, contact us at support@jobsu.app.

Are students employees of JobsU?

No. Students who complete jobs through JobsU are independent contractors — not employees, agents, or representatives of JobsU, Inc. JobsU does not direct or supervise how services are performed, set the methods or hours of work, or guarantee the results of any task.

When you book a student through JobsU, you are entering into a direct arrangement with that individual. JobsU's role is to facilitate the connection and handle secure payment — not to employ or dispatch workers on your behalf.

For more detail, see Section 15 of our Terms of Service, which addresses the platform's relationship to service providers.

How much does it cost to post a job?

Posting a job is free. A small platform fee is charged when a job is completed and paid through the app. You'll always see the full breakdown before confirming payment — no hidden charges, no surprises.

How do I sign up as a student?

Create your profile at app.jobsu.app/student/sign-up using your .edu email address. After your account is reviewed and approved, you'll be able to browse and apply to nearby jobs. We'll notify you once your profile is confirmed.

When and how do I get paid?

After a job is marked complete, payment is processed through Stripe and deposited directly to your connected bank account. The rate is always visible before you apply — you'll never be surprised about what a job pays. No job on JobsU pays below minimum wage.

Am I an employee of JobsU?

No. Students on JobsU are independent contractors. You set your own availability, choose which jobs to apply for, and are free to work for other platforms or employers at the same time. JobsU does not set your hours, direct how you perform tasks, or restrict you from working elsewhere.

As an independent contractor, you are responsible for reporting your earnings and paying any applicable taxes. If your annual earnings through the platform reach $600 or more, you may receive a 1099-NEC form for tax purposes.

How does payment work?

Residents pay through the app after a job is completed. A small platform fee is deducted, and the remainder is sent directly to the student's connected bank account via Stripe. No cash, no awkward conversations — everything is handled in the app.

Is my payment information secure?

Yes. All payments are processed by Stripe, which is PCI-DSS Level 1 certified — the highest level of payment security certification available. JobsU never stores full card numbers or bank account details on our servers. For more, see our Cybersecurity Policy.

How does JobsU select students?

Every student on JobsU must verify their enrollment with a valid .edu email address and is individually reviewed before being approved to take jobs. You'll never encounter an anonymous or unreviewed profile. After every completed job, both residents and students leave ratings — keeping the community accountable.

What should I do if something goes wrong?

Contact us at support@jobsu.app and we'll respond as quickly as possible. You can also report a user directly within the app using the report button on any profile or listing.

In the case of an emergency or immediate safety concern, please contact local emergency services (911) before reaching out to JobsU.

Can I block or report another user?

Yes. You can report any user or content directly in the app using the report button on their profile or listing. You can also email support@jobsu.app at any time. We investigate all reports. Users who violate our Acceptable Use Policy may be suspended or permanently removed from the platform.
